There are many sub-genres associated with horror.
-One of these is a slasher horror. These usually feature blood and involve violent psychopathic stalkers who aim to murder several people. An example of a slasher horror is 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' or Wes Cravens 'A Nightmare on Elm Street'. -Another sub-genre is action horror. Action horror combines evil and supernatural occurrences in horror, with gun fights and chases which you would find in action movies. An example of an action horror is 'Shawn Of the Dead' or 'From Dusk Till Dawn' -There is also the sub-genre body horror. Body horror consists of deconstructing the human body. Limbs are used to create fear by creating monsters out of body parts; presenting dysfunctional or unnatural movements is also used to project fear from the audience. An example of body horror is 'The Invasion' or 'Cabin Fever'. -Another sub-genre is comedy horror. Comedy horror combines elements of both comedy and horror; this usually crosses over with black comedy. An example of comedy horror is 'Scary movie' or 'Slither'. -There is also the sub-genre Gothic horror. Gothic horror combines both gothic and horror occurrences. These usually feature dungeons and the supernatural; presenting ruined or extreme landscapes to propel fear towards the audience. An example of Gothic Horror is 'Dracula' or 'Frankenstein'. -Another horror sub genre is psychological horror. Psychological horror relies on the character fears, guilt, beliefs or emotional instability. The supernatural is used to build tension and further the plot. An example of psychological horror is 'The Ring' or 'The Exorcist'. -There is also the sub-genre Science Fiction horror. Science Fiction horror often deals with paranormal occurrences; however, it is not limited on mad scientists or experiments going wrong. An example of Science Fiction horror is 'Alien' and 'The Mist'. -Lastly, there is also the sub-genre Zombie Film. Zombie Film consist of reliving corpses or mindless humans which feed off the living. An example of Zombie Film is 'Dawn Of The Dead' and 'Night Of The Living Dead'. |
