How does your opening title sequence use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our OTS partly challenges forms and conventions of pre existing media. An example of this is from the horror film 'Grave Encounters'. This is based on a group of people who lock themselves in a psychiatric hospital which is supposedly haunted where they search for paranormal activity. Although ours isn't based on paranormal activity, the hospital matches the idea of these buildings being something to fear; which is what we want our audience to be aware of. However, our OTS also does partly develop this existing media because it represents how terrifying an asylum, or psychiatric hospital, can be. Our audience may have potentially watched this film, therefore grasping their interests. A plus side to this is when watching this film, they will not be reminded of this pre existing media, due to it being a different horror sub genre. It will simply meet their interests, but in a different way.
Examples of real media types- Compared with our OTS
Here is a clip demonstrating where we found other films had a similar plot to ours. This was mainly the scenes where our female role is running through the forest; there is also sometimes a slight contrast between the two. The main movie we found was similar to ours was 'shrooms', purely because it was the film we aimed to base it on. Another one which we found was similar is 'escapee'. We felt our OTS challenges this form of media, because our character running through the woods appears smarter; due to the character in 'escapee' has police officers chasing after the. Whereas our female role is seen as more cunning and intelligent. Also contradicting the gender stereotype whereby males would be seen as more intelligent. Also considering she is blonde, our female role is also contradicting the stereotype of blonde females as well. This is potentially why our OTS challenges other forms of media horror, because it is different as well as unpredictable.
