There is many different types of conventions within horror films that are used quite a lot to show that they make certain implications within their storyline for their horror film. Below is some examples of classic conventions within horror.
The setting/ location in horror films are usually filmed in small areas. Some of these are, for example, houses, dark streets and abandoned places. These are good settings for a horror movie because these horror based places will make you feel unsafe, especially when one of the examples of a horror film is in a home, this would make you feel unsafe in your home while you are watching the film which is the main aim of some horrors.
Throughout horror movies there is a variety of different camera shots and angles. some of these camera shots are involved with low and high angles as well as close ups so the audience are able to see the fear on the characters faces. Another technical convention seen within horror movies would be sounds, some of the different sounds that are used within horror films are things like footsteps and disturbing sounds of dripping water etc. With some of these sounds you can edit them in so you are able to give it more of an effect when it comes to making the audience being scared and things jumping out at them.
Another convention in horror would be the stereotypical blonde girl who always gets killed either at the start, middle or end of the film. The stereotypical blonde girl would mainly be shown as the dumb girl who always gets herself killed, this is shown in the horror film scream because of how she is hiding in her house even though the killer knows that she in there. This stereo type is seen quite a lot in some horror films because of how often blonde girls get killed.
