BRITISH BOARD FILM CLASSIFICATION
British board film classification is a film rating company that is run by non-government employees. The employees that rate the films do it by watching the film before it is released and then discuss, together, a suitable age rating for the film. The film rating that we will be choosing is a 15, this is because the films that will be made will be based around horror so its suitable for children aged fifteen and over. This is mainly because the content in the film will involve drugs, nudity (sex), language, threats, violence etc. The nudity for the age rating of fifteen would involve sexual activity but not to explicit.
Age rating: 15
15 - suitable only for 15 years and over
The rating 15 involves:
- Discrimination
The work as a whole must not endorse discriminatory language or behaviour, although there may be racist, homophobic or other discriminatory themes and language.
- Drugs
Drug taking may be shown but the work as a whole must not promote or encourage drug misuse, for example, through instructional detail. The misuse of easily accessible and highly dangerous substances such as aerosols or solvents is unlikely to be acceptable.
- Imitable behaviour
Dangerous behaviour, for example things like hanging, suicide and self-harming. Weapons are also used but it won't promote the use of weapons in the real world.
- Language
There may be strong language. Very strong language may be permitted, depending on the manner in which it is used, who is using the language, it frequency within the work as a whole and any special contextual justification.
- Nudity
There are no constraints on nudity in a non-sexual or educational context. There may be nudity in a sexual context but usually without strong detail
- Sex
Sexual activity may be portrayed, usually without strong detail. There may be strong verbal references to sexual behaviour, but the strongest references are unlikely to be acceptable unless justified by context. Works whose primary purpose is sexual arousal or stimulation are unlikely to be acceptable.
- Threat
There may be strong threat and horror. Sustained focus on sadistic or sexual threat is unlikely to be acceptable.
- Violence
Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. Strong sadistic violence is also unlikely to be acceptable. There may be detailed verbal references to sexual violence but the depiction of sexual violence must be discreet and justified by context.

These images above are examples of films with the age rating of fifteen and below. Our main target audience is fifteen year olds this is because if the rating is a fifteen then we are able to have more of viewers watching the film as over fifteens can watch it as well. If we rated our film an eighteen then only eighteen years and over would watch it which means we would lose our younger audience.
